JAMSHEDPUR: Two juveniles were among seven youths rounded up in connection with the gang rape of a 26-year-old software engineer when she and her male friend were out on an evening walk at a secluded football field at Chaibasa in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district Friday.
She had alleged that 10 people were involved in the crime. SP Ashutosh Shekhar said Sunday that police were looking for two more suspects after arresting seven – the oldest being 22. “All of them are locals and have admitted to committing the heinous crime,” the officer said.
Police claimed to have found the woman’s ATM card, Aadhar card, driving licence, and Rs 4,500 in cash from the arrested youths, who are from villages near the football ground in the old Chaibasa area.
They thrashed the woman’s friend and forced him to leave before they pounced on her. The woman, a tech company employee working from home, alleged that the men initially raised objections to their presence at the football ground. “Two boys suddenly started beating my friend and they sexually assaulted me thereafter,” she said in her complaint.
A 20-member special investigation team (SIT) caught the suspects. Villagers helped the cops search and identify them. An FIR has been filed and the arrested youths were remanded in jail.
