Shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank(up 1.03 per cent), IndusInd Bank(up 0.39 per cent), HDFC Bank(up 0.3 per cent) and Punjab National Bank(up 0.23 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Federal Bank(down 2.56 per cent), Bandhan Bank(down 1.98 per cent), Bank of Baroda(down 1.8 per cent), ICICI Bank(down 1.79 per cent) and IDFCBANK(down 1.76 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Bank index closed 0.75 per cent down at 40990.85.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 49.85 points at 17786.8, while the BSE Sensex stood up 203.01 points at 59959.85.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 28 ended in the green, while 21 closed in the red.
