NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the ‘Rozgar Mela’ – a recruitment drive for providing employment to 10 lakh people, and called it an “important milestone” for India.
During the ceremony, he addressed the country via video-conferencing and laid emphasis on making India more self-reliant and taking forward the government’s ‘Make in India’ mission.
Under the employment drive, the government will distribute appointment letters to 75,000 newly inducted appointees. The step has been taken to increase job opportunities for youth and ensure welfare of the citizens.

* India today is the 5th largest economy in the world. In last 8 years, we have jumped to the 5th position from 10th position. It’s true that many big economies of world are struggling with inflation, unemployment and side effects of biggest crisis in 100 years can’t just go away in 100 days.
* It is a fact that the global situation is not very good. Several large economies are struggling. In several countries, problems such as high inflation and unemployment are at their peak. But despite this crises, India is taking new initiatives and some risks to save our country from being affected by these problems. We are working to soften this impact on our country. It is a challenging job, but with your blessings, we have been protected till now.
* The employment drive is an important milestone in government’s efforts for employment, self-employment in the last 8 years.
* Today our mission is Make in India. We have become a global hub in many sectors where earlier we were import dependent. When India breaks all export records, it is a testimony to generation of employment.
* Centre’s help of providing more than Rs 3 lakh crore to MSME sector during the Covid pandemic averted crisis to over 1.5 crore jobs in the country. New India is striving to increase the strength of agriculture, MSMEs and startups. Our focus is on the skill development of the youth.
* About 70% of the beneficiaries of PM Mudra Yojana are women. In recent years, 8 crore women have joined self-help groups that are financially supported by the government.
The posts on which appointments are being made include Central Armed Force Personnel, Sub Inspector, Constable, LDC, Steno, PA, Income Tax Inspectors, MTS, among others.
These recruitments are being done in mission mode by ministries and departments either by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as UPSC, SSC, Railway Recruitment Board. For expeditious recruitment, selection processes have been simplified and made tech enabled.
The prime minister had asked various government departments and ministries in June to recruit 10 lakh people on a “mission mode” in the next year and a half.
