HYDERABAD: Congress general secretary, communications, Jairam Ramesh said on Friday that it was the first time since the party launched its Bharat Jodo Yatra, when elected representatives from eight states participated in the march on its 51st day in the Telangana leg.
“It is special because on no other day leaders from so many states walked with Rahul Gandhi, except the first day when the walkathon was launched in Kanyakumari,” he said.
Sharing their experiences of participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the MPs and MLAs from eight states said people joining the walkathon have seen the true personality of the former Congress president Gandhi who is “sowing the seeds of love against the violence and hatred spread by the BJP and RSS”.
“The BJP and RSS had carried out a vicious campaign on social media and other platforms to spoil the image of Rahul Gandhi. The Bharat Jodo yatra has revealed the truth. It’s not easy for girls and women to hug a man, but many of them are hugging Rahul Gandhi and pouring out their woes due to unemployment and price rise. The BJP’s lies against him have been exposed,” said Sennimalai Jothimani, an MP from Tamil Nadu.
The elected representatives and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs from Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh who participated in the yatra said people were waiting for their voice to be raised at the national level and Rahul Gandhi has become their voice.
Punjab PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja said the BJP is getting scared as people are discussing in buses, trains and public places Bharat Jodo yatra as a good initiative and praising Gandhi.
