LUCKNOW: A day after chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to prepare a plan for developing Lucknow and seven adjoining districts as a UP State Capital Region (SCR), on the lines of Delhi NCR, the government on Saturday said work had already started on the proposal and a draft plan would be presented before the CM in a week.
The seven districts the proposed region will cover are – Lucknow, Sitapur, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar and Barabanki.
Two committees, including a high-powered one headed by the chief secretary, are also being set up to work on this proposal, which will work towards integrated development of districts around Lucknow so that pressure on Lucknow’s infrastructure and resources is eased. A government spokesperson said the state housing and urban planning department has been appointed to prepare a detailed action plan to implementa this project. “The SCR will be a unique example of inter-district planning and development. In future, the SCR may be expanded to include more districts,” he said.
“The CM has said that in order to have sustainable growth, an international standard of healthcare, education and infrastructure, and preservation of culture, a concept like the SCR is needed. This, he has said, will ensure balanced, inclusive and sustainable urban development in and around Lucknow,” he said.
