SpaceX
Launched in 2002, Space Exploration Technologies Corp., better known as SpaceX, manufactures Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles, several rocket engines, Cargo Dragon, crew spacecraft, and Starlink communications satellites. With SpaceX, Elon Musk wants to reduce space transportation costs. The company is also responsible for launching Starlink satellites into orbit. Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency broadband internet across the globe.
Tesla
Musk has been serving as Tesla CEO since 2008. It is a US-based multinational automotive and clean energy company that designs as well as manufactures electric vehicles, battery energy storage from home to grid-scale, solar panels and solar roof tiles, among others.
Tesla was founded in July 2003 as Tesla Motors and the company’s name is a tribute to inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla. Musk became the largest shareholder of the company in February 2004 by making a $6.5 million investment.
The Boring Company
Founded six years ago in December 2016, The Boring Company is also a US-based infrastructure and tunnel construction services company. It is currently working on projects related to designing intra-city (“loop”) transit systems. The company has completed two tunnels in Las Vegas for loop travel and one for testing in Los Angeles County.
Neuralink and OpenAI
Founded in the same year as The Boring Company, Neuralink Corporation is a neurotechnology company that develops implantable brain-machine interfaces. It aims to make devices to treat serious brain diseases in the short term. The company was co-founded by Elon Musk but the new Twitter boss is the owner of the company.
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory and is considered a competitor to DeepMind, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc which is the parent organisation of Google. Elon Musk is one of the co-founders but he resigned from the board in February 2018 though he remains a donor.
Musk Foundation
Elon Musk is also into philanthropy and Musk Foundation makes “grants in support of renewable energy research, human space exploration research, science and engineering education and development of safe artificial intelligence to benefit humanity.”
